Rotterdam Fashion Week – Salonè Della Moda

… “Hey Xiomara how are you doing?, would you like to be part of the makeup team during Rotterdam Fashion Week on the 12th of September … ‘?” Uuuhhh Hell yeah! was my thought when reading this message of make up artist Maico Kemper. This really made my day;the idea that I can express my skills and creativity during one of the greatest fashion events in the fashion industry.

The Rotterdam Fashion Week ‘Salonè Della Moda’, was held at LP2 Las Palmas.
This amazing lifestyle and fashion event was entirely in the hands of the talented creative director Jerry Luxenburg. He really did everything to create a unique event in which both national and international designers and brands were able to present their creations.

Meanwhile backstage all the models were busy with the fitting of all the clothes and shoes while the makeup team was getting instructed by key MUA’s Maico Kemper and Zouhair Benkabbou with the looks for the shows.

We practiced all the techniques and looks that we had to create for
the models. My team was responsible for the make up  of the brands Story Dress and Minirine.
The dynamic and chaos was something that I had to get used to at first backstage.
In the heat of the moment, the pressure was also increasing. This for me was a great learning experience. Fortunately, I was surrounded by talented, helpfull and generous make up artists.
All the skincare products that we used where provided by Aicha Pure Beauty.

The Story Dress look was a combination of lines around the eyes and a red mouth. The focus was on the wing eyeliner and tight parallel lines.

For the Minirine make up was the focus again on the eyes in combination with a red eye shadow creation. Blending Blending Blending and another blend was the key essential for this look.

Just before the start of the show all the models were equally in a line-up stand.
Possible adjustments could be made to the make up look and finishing touch.

A lot of press, bloggers and PR girls were running back and forth to get a backstage preview and experience the models and the atmosphere.

I was very happy that I got the opportunity to actually watch the shows and most important my own make up work. With a very proud feeling I was looking at the models, their makeup and of course the amazing clothes in which they walked. All the hard work was rewarded at that time.

The Story Dress clothes all tell their own story on the theme of Vincent Van Gogh.

Too Faced Beauty Experts Darlings

image5On my holiday in Pineda de Mar, I obviously had to pay a visit to Sephora in Barcelona.
I always feel like a kid in a candy store when I visit this make up mecca. During my two-hour ( 🙂 ) visit i’ve noticed a super nice travel-size box of Too Faced Cosmetics.

It turned out to be a collection of the top four bestsellers tested by American beauty experts like Jeannie Mai and Vegas Nay. Therefore I became very curious about the contents of this package which included travelsizes of the Shadow Insurance Eye Shadow Primer, Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer, Better Than Sex Mascara and La Creme Lipstick. Since the Better Than Sex Mascara was high on my wishlist, I was sold!

When it comes to the Better Than Sex Mascara I must sadly admit that this mascara actually is better than sex! No man on earth is able to give me the same satisfaction like this amazing mascara can. Nothing beats a good lash day and I prefer my lashes on fleek.FullSizeRender

My lashes look beautiful with only a few applications with this massive full applicator. Thanks to the fibers, your lashes receive a huge boost in terms of extension and volume. No more serums or other miracle cures for my lashes!

Because of my addiction for nude lippies, I was eager to start swatching with the Naked Dolly lipstick. image4 (1)

At Sephora the sales girl said that this nude lipstick was better for people with a lighter complexion. Offcourse I disagreed and like Kanye would say; “You aint got the answers!” 😀
With a lightbrown/darkbrown lip pencil you can create a beautiful color for the darker complexion. La Creme lipstick: It’s all in the name. A good moisturizing lipstick with a long lasting finish.

Shadow Insurance Eyeshadow primer is really a beauty musthave for women with oily skin.
Because of its fine texture it is very easy to apply on your eyelids and it pulls quickly into your skin.

image6This allows you to immediately apply your eyeshadow unlike with other primers. The great thing about this primer is that it prevents creasing between your eyelids and your eye makeup look remains the same color and maintained throughout the day.

The Chocolate soleil matte bronzer is ideal for mattifying the oily T zone. It is also very nice to contour along if you’d rather prefer powder instead of liquid products. I find it very useful for all skin complexions. Lighter complexions can use the Chocolate soleil as a bronzer and mattifying powder.

It suits great as a highlighter or mattifying powder as finish for the dark complexions. Oh…..and the Cocoa scent is very tasty yum yum gimme some more!

Photoshoot Mainport Hotel

I had to be at the destination by 18:00
Since I have about 15 minutes to reach the hotel from home I left around 17:40. So far so good you might think.

Once I was on the road I became aware of a major traffic accident.
Why didn’t I leave earlier!

Full of stress behind the wheel, I connected the group app of the shoot, to make clear that I’m on my way. Fortunately, a number of people are still on their way to the hotel, so I’am not the only one that is running a little late.
Around 18:45 I’m finally on location at the beautiful Main Port Hotel.

The hotel room was packed and up and running with the other members of the crew.

I was admiring the surroundings of this beautiful and deluxe hotelroom.
The perfect set for a wonderful photoshoot.

After the unpacking of my make up and brushes I started on the first look of my gorgeous model. I went for a soft nude glam.

This look completed nicely with the romantic and seductive aspect of the shoot.

We went for a more heavy make up with a dramatic contour when it came to the second look. Personally I’am a big fan of heavy contour and a over the top lippie.
I do not really believe in less is more 🙂

The shoot of this second concept was in the bathtub of the hotelroom.

The leaves made the water green, this was a beautiful shot in combination with the green eye shadow and bathing suit.

I was so happy that the photographer had arranged some good food because I was nearly starving to death. This was a real nice gesture of her.

After my model was finished with her part of the shoot I stayed for some networking and socializing with the other models and makeup artists.
It was a long evening/night but it was really worth it.
I got the chance to work with a group of talented people, gained experience and made great connections.
